Empowering African Nations Since 1981

IFESH education projects in Djibouti.

Djibouti

In Djibouti, our goal is to strengthen education reform strategies through the improvement of the quality of and access to the basic education provided to primary and middle school aged children, particularly girls, and the improved competencies of teachers and administrators in the areas of curriculum development and pedagogical skills training. We also focus on training teachers how to educate their students using teaching and learning materials made from construction paper and recycled materials developed in the field. Since 2003, in partnership with USAID and the Djibouti Ministry of Education, we have assigned 18 volunteers to various teacher-training institutions, colleges and Ministry of Education departments.

Our volunteers train pre-and in-service teachers in education, curriculum development, English as a Second Language, and HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness in secondary schools. Volunteers also organize HIV/AIDS seminars for women entrepreneurs and facilitate peer-to-peer training campaigns which target hundreds of youth as well as World AIDS Day and International Education Day events to raise HIV/AIDS awareness among youth, especially young girls.
