We began working in Liberia in 1998 under the USAID-funded, Liberia Integrated Civil Society Development Initiative. The project focused on infrastructure rehabilitation for primary schools in war torn areas, adult functional literacy and skills training, support in capacity building of community-based and non-governmental organizations to provide social services to communities and strengthening civic engagement and peace building. The program had a tremendous impact and was concluded in 2004.
The 2009 return of our education program will allow the country to progress rapidly towards achieving the goal of Education for All. In response to the request of the Ministry of Education, our focus will be placed upon training master teachers and school administrators, promoting school enrollment through teacher incentive programs, infrastructure rehabilitation, and strategic planning.
