Capacity Building in Teacher Education Project

In partnership with USAID-Ethiopia, we implemented the Capacity Building in Teacher Education Project in support of the Ethiopian Ministry of Education Teacher Development Program. In addition to being information technology and English language instructors, our International Educators for Africa volunteers serve as higher diploma leaders and coordinators and train lecturers in new methods of student-centered learning. The project has made significant contributions to Ethiopia's educational system, particularly in strengthening teacher education, reducing disparities in education (especially those that are gender related) and introducing HIV/AIDS awareness curriculum to the educational system. More than 2,000 pre- and in-service teachers and administrators have been trained in Ethiopia since the program began.
